Happy Birthday to my baby girl. She's with her grandparents for the next 6 weeks. The house is quiet. My heart is full. This one's for every mom who knows that feeling of proud and a little sad all at the same time. 

Whatup doe.

Missed y'all last week. Life happened, as it does, and I gave myself permission to skip one. No spiral, no guilt trip. Just a week off and I'm back.

Today is my daughter's birthday. She's not here. She's off making memories with her grandparents for the next six weeks, which is exactly what summer is supposed to feel like. And I'm sitting here editing this email while in Pittsburgh. 

🤝Finding Friends in Your 30s Is Hard. Can We Talk About It?

 

Nobody warned me that making friends as an adult would feel like interviewing for a job nobody posted. You have to figure out schedules, kids, energy levels, and whether you even like the same things anymore. It is a lot.

But here's what I have figured out: proximity and repetition still work. The same people you keep running into at the library, the park, the farmers market. The moms you see every Tuesday. The group chat that actually sends memes and not just MLM pitches. Those are your people. You just have to keep showing up. 

 

And then there's Ashley. We met in the DMs on Instagram, and somehow what started as a comment turned into a real friendship. I'm still kind of amazed by that. The internet gets a bad rap but every now and then it delivers exactly the right person at the right time.

 

That is also why I built this newsletter community the way I did. In-person meetups are not just a CTA to me. They are the whole point. Real friendships need real spaces.

  • Go somewhere consistently. Repetition is where friendships actually form

  • Lower the stakes. Coffee, not a whole dinner party

  • Be the one who says "we should do this again" first. Someone has to

  • Find communities built around something you already care about (hi, that's us)

Community is the point
